Phillies vs. Mets Starting Pitchers: Andrew Painter vs. Christian Scott
Andrew Painter draws the Saturday start for the Phillies, and that alone makes this one worth circling. The young right-hander has been one of the more compelling storylines in Philadelphia this season, and a road start at Citi Field against a Mets lineup that can do real damage is as stern a test as any. How he handles a lineup featuring Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Bo Bichette in the heart of the order will tell us plenty about where he stands heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
Christian Scott gets the nod for New York. The Mets right-hander has shown flashes of genuine front-line potential, and pitching at home in September with the division on the line is the kind of stage that either sharpens a young arm or exposes it. The Phillies will need to find a way to manufacture offense against him early.

Keys to Watch for the Phillies
- Painter's command against a disciplined Mets lineup. Lindor and Soto are patient, professional hitters who will work counts. Painter needs to be sharp from the first pitch or this Mets offense will make him work deep into counts all afternoon.
- Bryce Harper setting the tone. Harper batting third in this lineup is exactly what the Phillies need — a presence who can change a game with one swing and make pitchers think twice about working around Trea Turner in front of him.
- Kyle Schwarber leading off. Schwarber at the top of the order gives the Phillies a legitimate threat to put a run on the board before this crowd even settles in. A leadoff homer from Schwarber at Citi Field would be a perfect way to silence a Mets crowd that will be loud on a late-September Saturday.
- Luis Arraez making contact. The Phillies need Arraez doing what he does — putting the ball in play, keeping rallies alive, and making Scott's life difficult in the middle of the order.
- The Phillies bullpen staying clean. If Painter goes five or six strong, Philadelphia's bullpen needs to protect the lead. Letting the Mets back into a game late in September against this offense is a risk the Phillies cannot afford.
Prediction
This is a game that comes down to Painter. If he's commanding his fastball and keeping Soto and Lindor from getting comfortable in the box, the Phillies have more than enough in that lineup — Schwarber, Harper, Arraez — to score enough runs against Scott. The Mets lineup has genuine depth, but Philadelphia's order is built to grind out at-bats and find gaps. Give the edge to the Phillies, 4-2, in what should be a tight, well-played game. These are the September road wins that define a season.
