Preview
The Philadelphia Phillies wrap up their Sunday afternoon road slate at Truist Park on September 13, 2026, with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 PM ET against the Atlanta Braves. Andrew Painter gets the ball for Philadelphia opposite Atlanta's Grant Holmes in a matchup that carries real weight late in the regular season. With the NL East implications always magnified whenever these two franchises meet, the Phillies need a strong road performance from a lineup that includes Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, and Luis Arraez at the top of the order. NBCSP has the broadcast.
Phillies vs. Braves Starting Pitchers: Andrew Painter vs. Grant Holmes
Andrew Painter gets the start for Philadelphia, and anytime the young right-hander takes the mound it is worth paying close attention. Painter has been one of the more compelling pitching stories in the Phillies organization, and a strong September start against a lineup featuring Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson would do a lot to cement his standing heading into the offseason. Holmes gets the call for Atlanta, and the Phillies will look to put pressure on him early and often.

Keys to Watch for the Phillies
- Painter's command against a dangerous order: The Braves can hurt you in multiple ways. Acuña Jr. at two and Olson at three are legitimate threats, and Painter will need to be sharp with his locations. A long, efficient outing would be a big statement for a young arm in a pennant-race atmosphere.
- Schwarber and Harper setting the tone: Philadelphia goes as its top of the order goes on the road. If Schwarber gets on base and Harper drives runs in, the Phillies are in business. Holmes has to navigate that stretch of the lineup without any margin for error.
- Arraez at cleanup: Luis Arraez batting fourth is an interesting tactical look. He makes consistent contact and rarely chases, which means he can sustain rallies even when he is not going deep. He is the kind of hitter who wears pitchers down quietly.
- Justin Crawford in center: Crawford batting ninth and playing center field is worth monitoring. His presence at the bottom of the order gives Philadelphia another speedy option who can get things started in front of Schwarber and Turner.
Prediction
This is a tough venue, and Atlanta at home is always a battle. But the Phillies have the lineup depth to manufacture runs against Holmes, and Painter has the stuff to keep Atlanta's offense in check through five or six innings. If Philadelphia's bullpen holds the late innings, this is a game the Phillies can steal on the road. Call it Phillies 4, Braves 3 in a tight one that comes down to the final few outs.
